It's decided, in my next life I'm going to be a florist. Done. End of story. But in all seriousness who doesn't love a good bouquet of flowers? Am I right!?
Other than being beautiful, flowers (and plants for that matter) do loads for an interior. Imagine you're flipping thru a decor mag. You land on a picture of a stunning interior. You stop for a moment, and ask yourself what makes this space awesome? Well, chances are there's a plant or flowers somewhere in the space. Now take your finger and cover that plant or bouquet. Does the picture have the same impact? No? Why? Is it because something is unbalanced? Is the interest gone? The accent colour not as prominent? Chances are I'm alone in this picture dissection game. But in all honesty flowers and plants play a key role in interiors for a number of reasons.
Plants are that subtle element that hones in to our psyche...not to get too granola on you. By bringing that natural element in we create calm and bring balance to a space and ourselves. Studies show that plants help reduce stress, improve air quality and increase concentration. So chances are that plant sitting in the corner is doing more than just looking pretty.
While we're on the topic of pretty though...plants also add depth and dimension to a space. Have you ever gotten lost staring into a beautiful flower? (Am I alone on this one too??)The range of coulours, tones and textures are incredible. Adding a bouquet to a finished room ties that accent colour together in just the right way. Not to mention, they do wonders at filling empty corners or adding a bit of interest/depth to that stark surface.
So next time you're jonesing for a change go grab a bouquet in a colour that speaks to you, and get lost. It might just be what you need.
