TV: GAME OF HOMES | How it came to be...

It seems like only weeks ago that I stepped out on a beautiful sunny day to take on my greatest design challenge to date--renovate a house slated for demolition and turn into something amazing in only 4 WEEKS! I may very well have been insane but if there's only ever one thing you learn about me it's that i'm determined. And if I strongly believe in something ( which I did here) i will find a way to get it done. You see the story goes something like this...

It was a mere 12 weeks earlier, I was sitting at home, fresh out of surgery with a 2 1/2" inch screw in my foot to repair 3 broken bones i suffered from beach volleyball. I was in excruciating pain, immobile and frustrated beyond belief. I was unable to stand let alone walk or drive a car. My boyfriend caught wind of a casting calI for a renovation show in Vancouver called Game of Homes. It pinned 4 teams of two against eachother renovating 4 houses scheduled for demolition. The pairs would do the work themselves on tight timelines and even tighter budgets. He encourage me to apply, after all i have been known to demo the odd space or two at the drop of a hat. And so after encouragment from another friend and a pep talk with my foot i set out to find a partner that was willing to embark on a great adventure with me and tackle a house!

A partner...who could i find? They would need to be someone i was close to, we did after all have to live in the house together for the duration of the project. They would need to be skilled, someone i worked well with and be willing to put their life on hold for 5 weeks.

My other half was the first to come to mind but the chance he could take time off his busy work schedule was unlikely. My mother came next but let's face it, we might not be the best fit. Then I came to my Dad. He was semi-retired. A self proclaimed handy-man, he'd helped tackle a few of my previous projects. PERFECT! After a short chat I managed to convince him that putting his life on hold for 5 weeks to transform a dilapedated house with me was the right thing to do. How i managed to do this is still beyond me.

A few interviews and creative audition tapes later our i's were all dotted and t's were all crossed. We had managed to convince the powers that be that we were the best fit for the job. Despite doctors orders i was determined to listen to my body, and to push myself harder and faster than i ever had before. My foot would just have to learn to keep up.

We would set out to transform trash into treasure, tackling an entire house from the inside out.
